You hear that Thor: The Dark World<\/em> is in theaters and immediately assume it\u2019s a movie that can only be appreciated by comic book lovers, right? Wrong. Comic lovers would appreciate the action, the plot, and the intricacies of the characters, but the average moviegoer could enjoy the special effects, the amazing yet seemingly impossible love story\u2014well stories\u2014woven in throughout, and don\u2019t forget Thor himself, played by Chris Hemsworth.<\/p>\n As a sequel to the popular movie Thor<\/em>, we all thought we knew what to expect from Marvel. Well, I would say this film greatly exceeded expectations, and maybe even surpassed its predecessor. I found the characters more likeable and the plot more interesting. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), the crazy lab assistant of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), provided perfectly placed comic relief, and trickster god Loki (Tom Hiddleston) made a great comeback after his stint as the villain of \u201cThe Avengers.\u201d<\/p>\n We are introduced to the story with a legend about Thor\u2019s grandfather, Bor, and the defeat of the Dark Elves. He takes their weapon, a fluid source of darkness called the aether, and hides it so that all 9 realms will be safe. When scientist Jane Foster accidentally finds the aether it gets inside her, and Thor comes to Midgard (Earth) and takers her to his realm, Asgard. Malekith, one of the only surviving Dark Elves, attacks Asgard to get the aether out of Jane. Thor\u2019s mother, Frigga, is killed in the attack, creating the need for a quick way to destroy the aether, and keep Asgard safe. Thor, Jane, and Loki create a plan to destroy this darkness, but it\u2019s risky. Can they betray family and friends and pull off this epic plot to save the realms? Will Loki help Thor, or is there yet another villain we need to watch out for?<\/p>\n A plot twist in the last few seconds of the movie will leave you stunned.
