{"id":2542,"date":"2014-12-13T14:31:15","date_gmt":"2014-12-13T19:31:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thseagleseye.com\/?p=2542"},"modified":"2014-12-10T14:32:56","modified_gmt":"2014-12-10T19:32:56","slug":"u-s-navy-boot-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thseagleseye.com\/?p=2542","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Navy Boot Camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paulina Howard \u201815<br \/>\nEE Managing Editor<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cTough times never last, tough people do.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>In-processing week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Given Navy issued clothing, taught correct way to fold\/store belongings, and how to make their bunk.<br \/>\nDental and Medical exams and haircuts are given<br \/>\nFirst week is long and grueling with conditioning, swimming training, marching, drilling, and actual Navy classes.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Week 2<\/strong><br \/>\nWeek focused on confi dence building<br \/>\nInitial swim assessment (50 yards, a five minute prone float and clothing inflation to name a few skills required).<br \/>\nFitness baseline test<br \/>\nLearn the Navy\u2019s core values and ranking system.<br \/>\nConfidence Course &#8211; a course designed to simulate shipboard situations you could encounter in an emergency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Week 3<\/strong><br \/>\nHands-On week<br \/>\nLand-bound training ship skills\/scenarios<br \/>\nLearn ship nomenclature (names), first aid techniques, and semaphore (signaling with flags)<br \/>\nClassroom studies focus on Customs and Courtesies, laws of armed conflict, money management, shipboard communication, Navy ship and aircraft identification, and basic seamanship.<br \/>\nBasics of uniform presentation and inspection<br \/>\nKnot tying<br \/>\nLearn Chain of Command and 11 General Orders of the Sentry and military drill<\/p>\n<p><strong>Week 4<\/strong><br \/>\nLive-Fire Week<br \/>\nTrain with the M-16 and a 12-gauge shotgun<br \/>\nAfter successful completion of guns listed above, recruits will move onto a live-fire range.<br \/>\nMid-Cycle Assessment (MCA) to examine progress in drills, proper uniform, Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA), upkeep of locker and barracks, as well as live fire weapons training.<br \/>\nWeek 5<br \/>\nFiguring out where the recruits will go with their completion of boot camp and what the shortest path to get there will be<\/p>\n<p><strong>Week 6<\/strong><br \/>\nFire Safety Week<br \/>\nLearn most vital skills for the ship &#8211; shipboard damage control and firefighting<br \/>\nSkills include: how to extinguish fires, escape smoke-filled compartments, open and close watertight doors, operate Oxygen Breathing Apparatus and carry fire hoses<br \/>\nConfidence Chamber &#8211; 100 recruits line up, put on a gas mask while a tear gas tablet is lit, then proceed to remove the mask and recite full name and social security number while breathing in the gas. Must complete this challenge as a team<\/p>\n<p><strong>Week 7<\/strong><br \/>\nBattle Stations &#8211; the ultimate test<br \/>\nConsists of tweleve different scenarios incorporating everything recruits have learned during the previous weeks<br \/>\nMust complete as a team<br \/>\nReward for successful completion? An official Navy hat that no longer says \u201crecruit\u201d!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Week 8<\/strong><br \/>\nGRADUATION!
