This concert featured not only the members of the high school orchestra, but the members of the middle school and elementary school orchestras as well. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was a wide variety of music performed at the concert, ranging from classical to pop music. The high school orchestra performed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hero\u2019s Journey <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Soon Hee Newbold, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Magical World of Harry Potter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peer Gynt suite Movements 1 and 4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. They also performed <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Viking<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the middle school orchestras, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pepperoni Pizza Rock<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with all of the orchestras present at the event.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The String Fling concert was the first performance for new Trumbull High school orchestra teacher Ms. Karlan. Subsequently, preparing for the concert this year was more hectic, as senior violinist Bhavya Bhushan recalled. \u201cWe didn\u2019t get to play on the stage before the concert, and we thought we\u2019d have time to during the rehearsal but we didn\u2019t. But it didn\u2019t affect our performance and we played a great concert,\u201d Bhushan stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playing in the String Fling for her first time as concertmistress, Bhushan found the performance to be fun, despite the pressures of performing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt was my first time performing as concertmistress so I was nervous before we started playing,\u201d Bhushan said. \u201cI was putting a lot of pressure on myself to not mess up before the concert started but once I started playing I relaxed and had fun. Lauren and I had a couple of solos in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harry Potter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which were really fun because I enjoyed that arrangement a lot.\u201d This was the last String Fling Bhushan performed in for her high school career, which she describes as a weird yet fulfilling experience. \u201cMy first one feels like yesterday. I\u2019m so glad I decided to continue with orchestra so I could be a part of such a huge concert every year and I\u2019m really sad I won\u2019t get to be a part of it next year,\u201d said Bhushan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senior violinist Lauren Knapp also reflected on her last String Fling performance and having a new conductor. \u201cI was sad that Mr. Elkins wasn\u2019t there to conduct for my last string fling, but Ms. Karlan is really listening to our ideas and getting our input so it feels more like an orchestra than a class with her as our teacher,\u201d Knapp stated. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knapp enjoyed the diversity of the performance as well as having the opportunity to hear the other orchestras. \u201cI really liked the music we played,\u201d Knapp said. \u201cWe had a wide range of styles.
