Lucky for you, the 2016-17 school year looks like a big one for the entertainment industry, so here’s the condensed preview.

We’ll start with movies. In the next month, keep your eyes open for The Girl on the Train, an adaptation of the acclaimed book by Paula Hawkins. Another book soon to roll onto the big screen is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Written by J.K. Rowling, the newest edition to the world of Harry Potter is in fact, not focused on the beloved protagonist. It follows Newt Scamander in a timeline seventy years before Harry Potter makes his arrival at Hogwarts. More movies based on books soon to debut include: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Looking For Alaska, and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.

Not only will many books get their chance in the hollywood limelight, but this year seems to be a big one for sequels. Some of the more notable ones include: Star Wars: Episode VIII, World War Z 2, Fast and Furious 8, Toy Story 4, Avatar 2, and Pitch Perfect 3. The list goes on. Some old horror movie plots are also getting a new lease on life this year, including: Insidious: Chapter 4, Annabelle 2, and Amityville: The Awakening.

Star Wars Chapter VIII due to be released late 2017.

For all you Disney fans, look out for Moana, coming this November, and Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson as the real-life Belle. If you haven’t heard about Frozen 2 yet, brace yourselves for a whole new round of songs to be equally loved and despised.

If you’re not into going out to the movies, don’t worry, that’s what Netflix is for. 2017 looks like a big year for Netflix additions, such as Iron Fist and The Defenders, two new series coming from Marvel. If you prefer science over science fiction, have no fear, because soon to debut is Bill Nye Saves the World, and the title speaks for itself. Also, keep an eye open for 13 Reasons Why, based off the popular book by Jay Asher.

Needless to say, this school year will not be boring, whether you’re just beginning at Trumbull High or parting ways as a senior. Keep on the lookout for now updates throughout the year from the The Eagle’s Eye.

Katie Boback ’17 EE Senior Entertainment Editor Now that September has rolled around again, we’re back to the homework, sports, and studying of the school year.
