However, the Band takes time and commitment with the intense practice and preparation required.

The students’ dedication begins even before school starts. The Marching Band has one of the most intense summer programs at the High School. “Summer Camp” is a two week period at the end of August that has members working from 9am to 9pm. The scorching heat and intense exercise makes the days challenging.

“I remember breaking down into tears because I honestly hated it so much, but my parents didn’t let me quit, and I’m glad that I stuck around,” said Freshman Katie DeRose.

The days at camp are split into three blocks with lunch and dinner breaks in between. Every practice begins with group stretching followed by a 3 mile run. After the run, the Band divides into instrumental groups to work on polishing the sound of each unit. After instrument group work, the entire band comes together to perfect its music.

“The biggest contribution to our success is a positive attitude from everyone and just working together to use the most of our time not talking and getting things done,” James Gallo said, a Senior and Section Leader.

With a new band season comes a new wave of freshmen musicians. The Section Captains emphasize the importance of developing the freshmen into a winning culture. The 150 musicians in Marching Band is triple that of the 50 athletes who suit up for varsity football games every Friday and significantly surpasses the 100 cast and crew members in the Spring Musical, making the Band one of the most populated programs Trumbull High has to offer.

“As a senior, I am in charge of making sure all the underclassmen understand what they need to get done and how to get it done,” said Morgan Kiely.

James Gallo adds, “A lot of what they do in middle school is different… We have to teach them what we do in band and how we do things.”

“After spending about a month and a half in Pit, I decided to switch to Clarinet. She tells how seniors like Dan Pitagora and Michael Wise took time out of their busy schedules to help Katie get caught up on her marching technique and become accustomed to the music.

Following an eventful 2017-2018 season, the Marching Band anticipates making their way back to the MAC National Championship and Bands of America Regional Championship as well as many more illustrious events.

Harrison Bowen ‘19 EE Contributor The Marching Band is conceivably one of the most prestigious programs at Trumbull High School with its multiple Regional Championships and appearances in events such as the…

[3

post-4977","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-features
["GET
