The team believes that they had an extremely successful season, filled with hard work and great effort.

Commenting on the team’s efforts, Senior Captain Tiago Frazao says, “The team definitely exceeded expectations. I think we were able to do both this season.”

The boys ended the regular season with a 10-2-4 FCIAC record, making them the second seed going into the FCIAC tournament. However, that did not stop them from defeating the number one seed Fairfield Warde 1-0 in the FCIAC final, with a goal by Frazao. Senior Justin Horvath was named the MVP at the end of the game, making an assist for Frazao’s goal. This win led to the boys’ third FCIAC title within four consecutive FCIAC finals appearances, which the boys marked by dying their hair blonde as a team, just as the Varsity soccer team did back when this streak first started in 2016.

Phelan notes that a very special and emotional moment after the game was seeing Sebe’s wife lift up their FCIAC trophy, just as Sebe did when they won last year, in 2018, as he remarks, “Everything that we did this year we did for Sebe.”

Frazao had an especially notable season, breaking the Trumbull High School record for total goals scored in a season, scoring a total of twenty goals. In reference to this, Frazao reflects, “It’s definitely rewarding to personally hold this honor, and I am super thankful for my teammates for putting me into great positions to score and for the coaching staff for trusting me to have a more free role in the team.”

A notable part of the season for all of the boys were the efforts they put forth to dedicate this season to Sebe and make small tributes to him along the road to FCIAC finals and the state tournament. Throughout the season, they wore orange in honor of him, and they also touched his monument before every home game as a pre-game ritual. They also held community events in honor of him, such as a candlelight walk where they dedicated Sebe’s monument outside the turf field and a themed home game, “Sebe Night.”

Overall, it is certainly safe to say that this year’s Varsity team had an excellent season, as they defended their 2018 FCIAC title and maintained an exceptional record throughout the season, while continuing Sebe’s legacy. Incredibly proud of the boys efforts this season, the Trumbull High School community can only look forward to their 2020 debut as they continue their support for Coach Sil Vitiello and his outstanding Golden Eagle’s.

Katie DeRose ‘22 EE Senior Entertainment Editor After a disappointing 5-2 loss to Hall High School in the Class LL Boys’ Soccer State Semifinal on Monday, November 18, 2019, the Trumbull Boys…

[5

post-5468","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sports
["GET
