\"\"<\/a>The Girl\u2019s Varsity field hockey team is having a great season, and it doesn\u2019t look like that\u2019s going to stop anytime soon. Last year was difficult for Trumbull High, but it had an especially hard impact on sports teams and clubs. This year it’s been back to somewhat normalcy, and the Trumbull Girl\u2019s Field Hockey team has bounced right back, having an amazing start to their season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The team is eight games in and currently holds 3rd place in the FCIACs (Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference) with a record of four wins, two ties and two loses. So far they have beaten Brian McMahon (6-1), Westhill (4-0), Fairfield Warde (3-0), and Fairfield Ludlowe (1-0). They lost to Newtown (1-2) and New Canaan (0-3), and they tied with Wilton (0-0) and Norwalk (2-2). Trumbull has 9 games remaining in their season before FCIAC championships, with a couple of particularly challenging games against Staples and Darien.<\/span><\/p>\n

All of the girls on the team have been playing hard and working together to help contribute to their great season. Some standout players are forward Kayla Barbagallo (junior), forward Maura Carbone (junior) and goalie Jenny Flynn (junior). So far Barbagallo has scored 3 goals, Carbone has scored 6 goals and Flynn has made 15 saves. These upperclassmen are doing an amazing job leading the team and are setting a high bar for the sophomores and freshman next season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Field hockey is a challenging sport, so the girls\u00a0 have to put in serious effort while practicing. The team practices or plays up to six times a week, and practices generally last at least an hour. These practices include general conditioning work, skill based drills and scrimmaging.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Trumbull made the FCIAC championships last year, and the team aims to repeat that achievement this year. The coaches of the team say that they \u2018like their chances of making it to both the FCIAC championships and the state championships this year\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Teamwork has been key to the success of the team. \u201c<\/span>The team has incredible chemistry. They’re getting along really well on and off the field, and it shows in their game play,\u201d observed Coach Colleen Filiush. Anyone who plays a sport or is a part of a team knows that working together as athletes and as friends is beneficial to a group\u2019s ultimate success. All of the practice in the world won\u2019t make a difference without teamwork, and the girls seem to have that in spades!<\/span><\/p>\n

The girls held their team together through the restrictions imposed by COVID-19 , and they have continued their success this year. They have set an amazing example for future players to come and have continued their hard work and dedication towards their goal of making it to championships.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
