The Macy\u2019s Parade will be the host to millions of people once again.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

There is a song by The Carpenters that says \u201cThere is no place like home for the holidays\u201d. It\u2019s true and Thanksgiving is just that. Home is being safely around friends, family, and neighbors. It is one of the best parts of the holiday but it is something we all missed out on last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Covid-19 pandemic put a huge strain on families’ desires to travel for Thanksgiving last year. Even though many continued to travel despite CDC warnings, there was a 10% drop in travel according to AAA. For those that did travel, the questions of safety were always up in the air. Am I carrying the virus? Will I infect my family members? Will I get sick myself? With no vaccine, cases were bound to rise. And they did. The week of December 18th, 2020 saw the surpassing of 17.2 million Covid cases and a huge spike in hospitalized patients.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a big holiday event, was closed to the public and mostly prerecorded in 2020. An event that is usually attended by 2 to 3 million people saw empty streets because of the pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Families spent hours on Zoom, giving thanks to their family through a phone, watching bands perform on the desolate streets of New York City, and traveled with the question of safety in the back of their minds.<\/span><\/p>\n

This Thanksgiving will be better, thanks to the Covid vaccine.<\/span><\/p>\n

As of November 15th, 58.8% of Americans are fully vaccinated and those numbers will only increase with the approval of younger groups getting the yes for vaccines. This only means safer traveling and the return of important holiday traditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Airports have already seen a 78% increase in the number of flights booked for the week of Thanksgiving according to NPR news. The Adobe Digital Insights specialist Vivek Pandya said. “There’s excitement around potentially, you know, being with family and friends for Thanksgiving again\u201d. It is exciting to know that the holiday is already starting to look more normal and that families can celebrate as they should for a day of thanks.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so happy to bring back our big family dinner this year, seeing relatives we haven\u2019t seen in years and eating really good home-cooked food,\u201d said senior Nathan Ayotte. \u201cThese events are always so important to my family at the holidays\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Macy’s Parade will be the host to millions of people once again for this year’s event. With new balloons and the debut of Broadway performances, the celebration of normalace will be a huge part of this parade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Remember how thankful we should all be this Thanksgiving, to be around family, cutting into a delicious pumpkin pie, or waving flags as the Rockettes pass in the Thanksgiving Day Parade. When we aren\u2019t together, there is no one to be thankful or rejoice with. The Covid-19 pandemic took everything away from the holidays in 2021, but we get to take everything we lost back as we celebrate being \u201cHome for the Holidays.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
