The beginning beats of a Pearl Jam song play on a guitar, wooden sticks brisk against the drum, a teenage mouth opens, and lyrics pour out. This is just a glimpse of what local band Captured<\/em> has been dedicated to for years.<\/p>\n

Captured<\/em>, named after the book they all enjoy, is the home to four highschoolers: Dillon Sakowich, a freshman, Peter Koval and Cole Mouio, both sophomores, and Ilario Muoio, a senior, all from Trumbull High School. Captured<\/em> started five years ago when Dillon Sakowich and Peter Koval, his cousin started playing together. Two years ago, the band was formed when the Mouios joined.<\/p>\n

Captured<\/em> is mainly a \u201c90s alternative rock and grunge\u201d band that plays mostly cover songs like Led Zeppelin and Pearl Jam but also creates some originals as well, according to vocalist and lead guitarist, Dillon Sakowich. They\u00a0use instruments acquired from the Guitar Center. <\/i>Dillon Sakowich uses a Fender<\/i> guitar, while Cole Mouio uses a Les Paul<\/i>. Peter Koval has his drums from Drum Workshop,<\/i> and Ily Mouio uses a Fender<\/i> bass.<\/p>\n

Sakowich says their target audience \u201cis really anyone who enjoys music and a good time\u201d and can range from kids to adults. Two good examples of fans are Luke and Braden McDermott. Dillon Sakowich started his journey as a musician by playing small gigs, like in McDermott\u2019s garage. All four boys have been deeply connected to music since an early age and chose this style because all members enjoy playing, listening, and appreciating grunge music.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe more I got into the band, the more I enjoyed the music they played\u00a0so I can partially credit them for my taste in music”, says senior Braden McDermott.\u00a0“It also helped foster my love for live music”.<\/p>\n

“(Although) their style of music is more towards my parents style, they have definitely gotten me and all my friends to like it over the years”, said freshman Luke McDermott.<\/p>\n

Although the age range of the boys is four years, any age can enjoy\u00a0Captured.\u00a0<\/em>Christine Karimi enjoys watching them because \u201cyou can tell they\u2019ve been influenced by a wide array of musical styles\u201d. At such a young age, these musicians have \u201cleaned in and embraced 90\u2019s grunge style music that I enjoyed when I was in college,\u201d Karimi says.<\/p>\n

Captured<\/em> throughout the years, has grown in popularity and skill. They usually practice once a week, but on the week of a gig, several times. Captured<\/em> has played in backyards, restaurants, music halls, and small festivals like\u00a0Make Music Fairfield.<\/i> Captured<\/em> plans to keep playing at larger gigs and clubs with the goal of bigger festivals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
