The lights dimmed, focusing a singular spotlight on the red curtain to draw the audience into the performer. The crowd of family and friends created the perfect atmosphere of encouragement and delight in watching loved ones show their passion for music.

Seniors took to the stage performing a wide variety of songs from those that they had an emotional connection with, childhood memories associated with, or simply a favorite for car karaoke. Though singing was the primary form of performance at this year’s event, students in the twelfth grade are encouraged to showcase any variety of musical talent they desire such as playing an instrument.

This year’s Senior Showcase included 10 acts with several students performing in multiple acts, singing a solo then returning to the stage with a friend or family members. Many snaps, claps, and cheers burst from the audience throughout performances to display their support and awe for a performer’s riff or musical choice. Following each performance, the audience erupted with applause, recognizing the talent and dedication of each student, as students wanting to perform had to put together their own acts. Some students elected to perform songs from their favorite artists while others chose to perform original compositions or even a song from a pilot musical they had recently been a part of.

Senior Irene Yezersky commented on her experience stating that, “Senior showcase is something many singers look forward to no matter the grade! Other students enjoy going to watch the showcases and get to cheer on their senior peers. I loved the experience this year and thoroughly enjoyed performing with my dad and sister”; and the atmosphere in the auditorium proved just this. Floral aromas filled the room as family and friends brought bouquets to express their appreciation and joy. Underclassmen watched with awe and inspiration as many students who hold a deep appreciation for music anticipate the day when they are able to perform in this showcase.

The audience had nothing but positive, heartfelt comments at the close of the showcase. Trumbull High senior Rose Mottolese expressed that, “It was really cool to see all of my friends performing. It was such a fun atmosphere and I was so proud of my friends for performing”.

Each performer not only prepared their own act, but filled the stage with their presence and expressed their deep rooted joy for music in every move, smile, and note.
