Trumbull Public Schools had an Early Dismissal on Wednesday, November 27th and had both the 28th and 29th off. With this break, students and families had many opportunities to do Fall and Thanksgiving activities, and to reflect on all that they were grateful for.

Many students this year, around Thanksgiving week, participated in various “Friendsgivings”. This trend and activity is usually similar to having Thanksgiving dinner, except it is an opportunity for friends to eat together too. This is a fun way for people to show their appreciation for their friends and share their traditions as people can bring their own favorite foods and play their favorite games. Friendsgivings vary, some being more traditional and having foods like turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy, while others may just involve everybody bringing their own cultural dish.

Another popular activity many people in the Trumbull community did around Thanksgiving was participating in a Turkey Trot, or Thanksgiving Day run. Last Thursday some of the local Turkey Trots included the Stratford Turkey Day 5K Trot and the 5 mile Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day Race. While it was raining during both of these events, they still had high turnouts and were overall successful. Another race, around Trumbull High, took place on Saturday. The Cow Chip is an annual 5K Cross Country race, starting and ending at Trumbull’s Agriscience & Biotechnology Center. This run’s course includes running through THS’ trails, hills, rocks and grass, making it very fun and different from normal road races.

Watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was another classic and common tradition among many students at Trumbull Public Schools. This parade, sponsored by Macy’s, takes place in New York City and features many different famous singers, balloons, and floats and it ends with the transition into the Christmas spirit. This year there were 6 new balloons and 7 new floats, including Disney’s Minnie Mouse balloon, Marvel’s Spiderman balloon and Haribo’s Candy Cosmos float. Many classics also returned – Snoopy Balloon, Ronald McDonald, and Smokey Bear, to name a few.

Thanksgiving is to be grateful and appreciative of all our friends, family members, peers and opportunities in our lives. Many Trumbull High students celebrated the holiday in different ways, but all of them were able to enjoy themselves and bond with others – embracing the true spirit of the holiday.

Maura Brunt ‘27 EE Staff Writer This year, Thanksgiving was on Thursday, November 28th.
