While the iPhone has been considered the number one smartphone ever since it came out June 29, 2007, it is starting to have high competition with the recent release of Samsung Galaxy S III as of June 2012.

The iPhone clearly has many advantages that have captivated people’s hearts for more than five years. With its high megapixel camera and easy and fast web browsing, for a while nobody ever really thought a phone could get better. However the Samsung has caused such commotion for technology junkies that even Apple took action.

Two short months after the release of the Galaxy SIII, Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung. This, however, did not stop Samsung’s success and by September 2012, more than 20 million Galaxy SIII’s were sold.

Of course some the first ones to switch over phones would be Trumbull High students who love to keep up with the latest trends, in not only fashion, but technology as well.

THS senior Vanessa Kenealy said “I had been saving up for the IPhone 5 since I got a job, but my heart was never really into it. As I keep seeing more and more commercials for the Samsung SIII, I’m thinking I’m going to use my IPhone 5 money on that phone instead.”

Like Apple, Samsung Galaxy always had many loyal customers. Kamal Shaham for example always has fun arguing iPhone versus Samsung. “I’ve never liked iPhones. I always made fun of my friends for having that phone even though all of them had it. I had the Samsung Galaxy SII for forever and now I obviously have the Samsung SIII.”

Galaxy SIII might be thought about as one of the best phones of 2012, leaving the iPhone 5 in the dust, but for some it is hard to change from the iPhone to any other phone.

Maggie Velloso said “I’ve been due for an upgrade since August, but I don’t want to change. My iPhone 4 has been my phone since sophomore year and it’s almost like I’m attached to it.”

Technology keeps advancing every day, and it is amazing to think of what could be innovated tomorrow. Whether it is a phone, a computer, a camera or transportation, the ideas and possibilities for the future are endless.

By Jossy Layedra ‘13 EE Staff Writer The iPhone has become part of the daily life, not only Trumbull High School, but worldwide.
