On February 17th and 19th in Milano-Cortina, Italy, individual women figure skaters received that opportunity at the Olympic Games. However, the immense expectations and pressure the woman faced crumbled many dreams under the spotlight. The athletes have two chances of proving they are worthy of a medal, and every performance is judged with extreme precision. Even the smallest mistake can cost them a place on the podium and shatter their hopes of becoming an Olympic champion. The 2026 Women&#8217;s Olympics solo figure skating event demonstrated that even the strongest athletes can crumble under pressure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The short program event can create security for the athletes or ruin their chances of an Olympic medal. A favorite to win, Amber Glenn struggled under pressure and lost a chance stand on the Olympic podium with her heartbreaking short program.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A February 18th<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> New York Times <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">article <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported that \u201cGlenn, three-time reigning U.S. champion, was in the mix for a medal until the very end of her routine. She landed a huge triple axel, which led into a triple-flip-triple toe loop. However, Glenn was just a little off kilter and bailed out of the triple loop\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The smallest mistake ultimately cost Amber Glenn a medal. Despite winning numerous titles and being one of the few women recorded to successfully land a triple axel- an Ultra-C jump-in competition. With her stats Amber Glenn was expected to podium. However, Amber Glenn is not the only skater affected. Her teammate Isabeau Levito, was known for her consistency and stability, also struggled, and fell on a triple flip in her long program. Even the favorite to win gold, Kaori Sakamoto and the short program leader, Ami Nakai, were impacted by the pressures of competition. Alysa Liu, Gold medalist thrived under pressure and used her tranquility to her advantage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall the Women&#8217;s Olympics figure skating event proved to be unpredictable, showing that the smallest mistake can cost an athlete the medal, regardless of how hard they worked.
