But, it is easy to avoid stress about the SAT. Firstly, prepare early; start studying now and review materials a couple times a week to stay sharp. Keep your perspective in mind, the SAT is important, but it does not determine everything; there are many other things that go into a college application, so don’t stress about the SAT. In addition, many colleges are test-optional. Taking care of your body and getting enough sleep reduces stress. Also, being prepared the night before the test can reduce stress in the morning so all you have to worry about is doing well on the test. All you can control is how well you prepare. You can’t control the questions or anything about the test, but you can control your effort and preparation.

The SAT has recently changed in the last couple years, it has gone fully digital through the College Board. The test is about two hours long with adaptive modules in reading and writing. It is an important test because it could stand out on your college application, or even determine a scholarship for some students.

Preparing effectively is the most important thing about this test. Start by taking a practice test, scoring it, seeing what you got wrong and what areas you need to put more work into. Attending a class or tutoring session could be very helpful, or getting a test prep book, or using Khan Academy to prepare. Next steps include creating your study plan: a couple times a week with timed practice and focusing in certain areas. Also, practicing in test simulating conditions is important. Study in an uncomfortable spot with no distractions, so it seems like test day. When studying, checking answers and why you got them wrong is very important. Looking for patterns in questions is helpful and can lead you to an answer just by knowing what you will see on the test.

Test day can be scary but there are a few things you can do to ensure a decent score. Answer every question; there is no penalty for guessing. Double check your answers in the math section, and read carefully in the reading and writing section. Lastly, use the tools provided: demos calculator, highlighting tool, flag for review.

With effort and preparation, students can be ready to take the SAT confidently. The SAT is not a measure of your worth, it is simply a skills-based test.

Kate Booth ’27 EE Staff Writer With the school-given SAT coming up, students tend to get stressed about scores, studying, and colleges.
