On Friday, November ninth both Central High School and Trumbull’s football team were hungry for the win. The Hilltoppers of Central High School were thought to be the underdogs with only one win in the current season, but the game turned out to be much closer than expected.
Prior to the game there had been talk between the players over Twitter that had riled both teams up. Senior, Michel Garity tweeted the evening before. “To let everyone else on the THS football team know… Central is getting hyped about this game. You have too!” This gave our Eagles the motivation they needed to face Central the following day.
Central came out with an aggressive start, and got called for a penalty before the clock started. The Hilltopper’s desire to defeat THS gave them the fuel they needed to match up to the Eagles. The game continued to be neck and neck up until the last buzzer went off with the final score of 44 for Trumbull and Central, 42.
Although Trumbull had expected to win by a larger margin than two points, the team is not complaining. “We never thought it would be this close, but we won and that’s all that matters now so we’re happy.” Junior, T.J. Hayduk said after the game.
Coach Maffai expresses his joy to the Connecticut Post. “We’re 4-4 right now and we’re playing. We’re getting better and better each week. I tell you what, we can’t wait to play New Canaan.”
