The week of January 30th was a busy one for the THS Model Congress team who worked to raise money for their upcoming trip to Harvard at the end of February. Over the course of two events, the club was able to raise $800 and are looking to continue fundraising.
The first of the events was sponsored by Old Towne, in which the restaurant generously agreed to donate 10% of all dine in profits to the team. It was a win-win for family and friends of Model Congress students, who were able to enjoy delicious food and benefit the club at the same time. The night proved to be a huge success, raising an impressive amount.
“It’s great to see the community come out and support the club like this,” said Senior Cristina Catana, a member of the executive board. “It means a lot to live in a town that likes to give back to our generation”
The second of the team’s events was sitting outside of Stop and Shop looking for donations to support the club. For 6 hours, members of Model Congress stood outside Stop and Shop, interacting with people from all across Trumbull. Despite the below freezing temperatures, the club was able to raise a significant amount of money while getting to know the people of their town a little better. At the same time, the club spread a little cheer as they handed out chocolates and lollipops to those who donated.
“Fundraising requires a lot of effort from the entire team, but in the end it’s very rewarding,” says sophomore Kyle Beck.
Another member of the executive board, junior Derek Marble, said that, “Our fundraiser was a great success. Even though it was freezing outside, all of the kids and Ms. Boland had a great time interacting with everybody that stopped by. I look forward to raising more money at Stop n Shop for our club this spring when it is a little warmer.”
Be sure to support Model Congress in their future fundraisers, such as an upcoming event sponsored by Chip’s Restaurant, and wish them luck at their conference February 23rd.
