With the excitement of Taylor Swift’s upcoming 11th studio album brewing, many are wondering what her newest album will look like. Predicted to be a musical mix of her 4th, 6th, and 10th albums, Red, Reputation, and Midnights respectively, the music genre of this album is anticipated to be alternative-pop and synth-rock. There will also be some incorporation of other styles of music, seeing that this album contains many collaborations with other musicians, such as Post Malone and Florence + The Machine.
While there are many song titles that are leaving fans confused about what they could be about, there are also several that have predictable meaning, including So Long, London, Florida!!!, and I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.
Beginning with So Long, London, this song is rumored to be about Swift’s breakup with her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Swift and Alwyn’s relationship notoriously began in London, as Alwyn is a England native, and much of their relationship was spent in the U.K. This song could represent the closure of them as a couple and discuss the falling out of their 6 year relationship, which is bound to be full of drama and excitement.
Next, the song Florida!!! is reported to be named after the location in which Swift’s break-up with Alwyn went public. At the time, April 13-15, 2023, Swift was performing her Eras Tour show at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. This song, while slightly less clear than So Long, London, is still speculated to be about her perspective of the social media frenzy that came from the public announcement of their split.
Lastly, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, is a song that will hopefully contain Swift’s perspective regarding life post-break up. 2023 was Swift’s biggest year yet in both a personal and professional sense. While her Eras Tour was the highest grossing concert tour of all time, accumulating over $1 billion, she still dealt with many personal issues at the time including the falling out with Alwyn. This song is anticipated to be about how Swift was able to overcome the adversity facing her and still continue to perform in over 10 countries that year, even with a ‘Broken Heart’.
I am not the only Swiftie who is excited for the album’s release. Talking to fellow Taylor Swift enthusiast Nora Watson, she says, “I’m so excited to see what this new era entails. I’m also excited to see how all the music sounds and how it is different from her previous albums.” As Nora and I agree, this will no doubt be another masterpiece from Ms. Swift!
