Trumbull High School and TPAUD are excited to welcome Mrs. Amy Grant, LADC, as a substance abuse counselor! Mrs. Grant is affiliated with Liberation Programs, which is an organization that provides community outreach programs to those who are struggling with substance abuse.
Liberation Programs was founded in 1971, and works with people of all ages to overcome substance abuse, whether it is alcohol, drugs, or other types of addiction. Their goal is to support people in their recovery and provide outreach programs to the community. They offer different types of therapy, including outpatient and intensive outpatient programs.
This is Mrs. Grant’s second year with Trumbull High School. Last year was her “pilot year,” as the program was being tested. She has worked in the substance abuse field for several years, and has been licensed for six years. She holds a Master’s degree in psychology, and is willing to give career advice to anyone pursuing a career in psychology/addiction counseling.
Although Mrs. Grant is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), she works with students who have behavioral addictions, such as problem gambling. Mrs. Grant collaborates with the student’s support team, such as their school counselor or social worker, regarding appointments while keeping the content of the conversations confidential. Mrs. Grant’s goal is to get to the root cause of the addiction, such as anxiety, depression, boredom, stress, etc., without getting the students in trouble. Mrs. Grant treats students as individuals, and truly wants to help them.
Many students who struggle are also interested in seeing an outside provider, such as an outside therapist. Mrs. Grant is able to refer students to these providers for more care.
Mrs. Grant works in Trumbull High School on Tuesdays and Fridays in room B204, which is across from the B House entrance to the Upper Media Center. If you are interested in getting a referral to talk to Mrs. Grant, please see the school’s mental health staff, including your school counselor, social worker, psychologist, or the Dean of Students, Mr. McLaughlin. One of these staff members will be able to formally refer you to Mrs. Grant for counseling.
