The odyssey, a dramatic, R-rated film that is 2 hours and 52 minutes long. This movie takes the audience through a long treacherous journey, also known as an Odyssey. The movie has a variation of battles, different Greek mythology creatures appearing out of nowhere, and love.
What is the mystical tale of the Odyssey even about? Odeysseus, the king of Ithaca sets sail with his 108 men in order to defeat the Trojan in Troy. The story covers a twenty year period, ten years at war, and ten years at sea. Meanwhile, his wife Penelope and son, Telemachus are left behind not knowing whether he is dead or not.
These obstacles that Odysseus and his soldiers face aren’t normal. The cyclops, a one eyed giant, who just so happens to be the son of Poseidon who is the God of the sea. Their first egotistical action towards the cyclops sets their journey in the completely wrong direction. When finally discovering land, they come across laseytrogans, who are giant man eating creatures. Losing most of the men, and more of his ships, his next stop is where his men find Circe. Circe is a woman who has a powerful sorceress that can turn the men into pigs. Closing upon their journey, they come across land that is the land of the dead, forcing him to come face to face with his deceased soldiers. A more well known obstacle, the sirens. Most men put in ear wax in order to not hear their daunting sounds, some don’t. The next two go hand in hand, sycalla, and charybdis. One is a whirlpool that can swallow whole ships and the other is a giant monster that snatches six of his men. Finally, even after warnings his soldiers hunt for a cattle, despite Odysseus forbidding it. As punishment Zeus makes the ship go through a murderous storm that only allows one man to survive.
You may have heard different literary symbols like the Trojan horse, this movie addresses these famous sayings. This movie has been seen as educational, and eventful. This action packed movie has many different meanings to it, and lessons that the men had to endure. If you want a good life lesson tied together with some Greek mythology this movie is for you!
