Every year Connecticut Magazine makes a list called “Best of Connecticut: Food and Drink,” where they name the best places to get any cuisine imaginable in Connecticut. So with the close of 2012, they have compiled their annual list to help guide foodies on their food endeavors in the new year of 2013.
After scrolling through everything from the best bagels to the best place to dock and dine, readers will come to find pizza. While it may not be a surprise to many Connecticut residents, Pepe’s Pizzeria Napoletana was named number one. Pepe’s also received this same acknowledgment in 2009.
Connecticut Magazine even said “We have no problem calling it Best of Connecticut, since many believe it’s the best in the world.” This rings true to many people, as Pepe’s has been voted number one in many other contests as well. For example in 1999, Pepe’s was named to the James Beard Foundation’s list of “America’s Classics.” In 2006, Pepe’s was acknowledged on the History Channel’s American Eats show as the originator of New Haven-style pizza in 1925.
And it does not stop there. In 2009 Pepe’s was named the “Best Pizza on Earth” by The Guardian. In the May issue, food correspondent for GQ magazine, Alan Richman, named Pepe’s the 12th best pizza in the country while on December 7, 2010 Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana was inducted into that Connecticut Hospitality Hall of Fame. Pepe’s is clearly deserving of these recognitions and continues to be number one in its many fans eyes.
