Every year, the Grammy Awards are considered to be one of the biggest events in the music industry. Thousands of viewers sit in front of their TVs to see their favorite artists perform live and receive awards. This year, the Grammys were held at the Staples Center on January 26. It was hosted for the third time by rapper LL Cool J and marked the 56th anniversary of the event. It included performances by Taylor Swift, Daft Punk, Katy Perry, Madonna, Beyonce and Jay-Z, and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, just to name a few. Daft Punk took home two of the most anticipated awards, Album of the Year and Record of the Year, for their album Random Access Memories and their song “Get Lucky”, featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis received the award for Best New Artist, while Lorde won Song of the Year for “Royals.” Many more artists won awards in other categories as well. Jay-Z received the most nominations overall- 9. No matter whom fans may have been rooting for, the recipients’ awards were definitely well deserved. Just keep your fingers crossed for your favorite artists for next year! This years Grammys were a memorable occasion for music lovers all across America, but now that it’s over, everyone is keeping their ears open for potential nominees for next years Grammy Awards!
