Participants in Domestic Violence Awareness Honored

Trumbull High School students who participated in a poster contest highlighting prevention and awareness of domestic violence were honored at a breakfast April 28th in the senior lounge.

Students were charged with creating original works highlighting teen dating violence and developing healthy relationships.  The contest was spearheaded by the Trumbull Advisory Committee, consisting of various town organizations including Trumbull Public Schools and the town’s counseling center along with the Center For Family Justice.

Award winners were presented with certificates by Robin Bieber a counselor at Trumbull’s Mary J. Sherlach Counseling Center and Carolyn Butler, Chairperson of School Psychology/Social Work for Trumbull Public Schools.

“We began the contest back in October which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month”, said Bieber, “and thought it appropriate to culminate in April which coincides with ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’.” That event encourages men to raise awareness of gender violence and took place regionally in Milford and Hamden over the last couple of weeks.
