Excitement is growing for the annual Thanksgiving football game, against the Trumbull Eagle’s cross town rivals, the St. Joseph’s Hogs. Not only will the game mark the end of the Eagle’s 2012 season but will also serve as the THS homecoming game. Homecoming was originally scheduled for the November 16th game vs. New Canaan. However, due to schedule changes from Hurricane Sandy, the festivities have been rescheduled to the November 21st game against St. Joes.
Student Council member Ari Matz says, “Student Council is responsible for running elections for homecoming king and queen. Elections will be held during the week and the winners will be announced at the game on Wednesday night.”
As for the football team, they hope to end their season on a high note with a big win against the Hogs.
According to senior running back, Ryan Pearson, “It is very important to the team to win and bring the McDougall trophy back to Trumbull High.”
Although the Eagles do not have a chance to qualify for playoffs, they have the opportunity the end St. Joe’s playoff hopes. A lot is on the line for the Eagles and there is no doubt fans will be in for an exciting contest.
THS cheerleading captain and avid Trumbull football fan, Taryn Bartolucci says, “I’m happy they changed homecoming to the Thanksgiving game because that is my favorite game of the season. The stands are always packed. It feels like the entire town of Trumbull goes to the game, so it will only make the homecoming festivities more exciting.”
On Wednesday, November 21st at 7:00, McDougall stadium will be the place to be in Trumbull. Make sure you don’t miss the St. Joe’s- Trumbull rivalry as the teams go head to head. Also, remember to cast your vote in Student Council’s homecoming king and queen election. And finally, in the words of the cheerleaders, “Go Eagles!”

I agree with Taryn in that I am glad that the Thanksgiving game is also the homecoming game. It will add excitement to the already exciting game. As a cheerleader, this is also my favorite game because there is the most rivalry between us and St. Joes than most other schools we play. Many say that St. Joes is projected to take the win at this game, but I have faith in our eagles.
This game will be a lot of fun now that it is two important games in one! It will definitely draw a huge crowd.
I am most definitely attending this game. Though Trumbull high is the underdog, I’m hoping the “home field advantage” gives us the competitive edge. Regardless, I’m sure it will be an exciting game for both sides.
I agree as well I think having the game be the homecoming and thanksgiving game in one will make people look forward to it even more. The article did a really great job at getting people interested and if someone has any doubt about attending, this story definitely could definitely convince them otherwise.
Never been to a THS Football Game in my life… should this be the first and last?
I am very excited for the game on Wednesday. I always look forward to the Thanksgiving game, and the fact that it is Homecoming makes it even more exciting. I expect a huge crowd at this event. The game will definitely be exciting, due to the rivalry between the two schools and what they are fighting for. Many students have already begun to buy their tickets in lunch, for they expect the lines to be huge.
I agree that evryone was really excited for the thanksgiving game. Especially for us seniors, this is not only the last football game of the season, it is the last game period, forever. I went to the game, and I went home with alot of school spirit, proud to be an eagle. I was really happy that Maggie and Auggie won for comecoming because I voted for them. Overall the game was a great experience and lots of fun!
