On Saturday November 12th, the Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band headed to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey to compete in the USBands National Championships. After a long and successful season, band members were excited and sad to head to their final competition.

The bands show this fall, entitled Metal-Morphosis, featured four songs titled Gavorkna, Foundry, Lyric Metal and Kala. Band members have been working on their fall show since May, and their hard work has clearly paid off.

THSGEMB is a Group VI Open band, which is the class for bands that have more than 90 members.

Competing against seven other bands, THSGEMB swept the competition with an overall score of 97.1, leading by about one-fifth of a point. Band members were overwhelmed as drum majors senior Michael Collins, junior Elizabeth Kramer, and junior Rachel Vincent accepted the fourteen-foot trophy.

“Winning the USBands national championship was a surreal experience,” says junior Mary Mottolese. “When they announced that we were national champions, I cried tears of joy and finally felt the rewards of thousands of hours of hard work!”

After weeks of hard work, the band was able to put on one of their best performances, and made history as this was the first time that they had won the USBands National Championship.

Band director Mr. Horton says, “We had a fantastic season! We accomplished more than we anticipated with our two major wins at Bands of America regionals and USBands national championships. The students worked really hard and I’m proud of them and everything that they have accomplished.”
