FFA Week Line up

Every year, the National FFA Organization hosts a week long celebration of the FFA and all that the organization encourages. FFA Week, as it is formerly known, runs from Saturday to Saturday, and always encompasses February 22nd, George Washington’s birthday. Since 1948, this long standing tradition of the FFA has encouraged the agriculturalists and youth of the present to remember the the legacy Washington left as a farmer and leader.

It’s not only historically relevant, but this special week encourages enthusiasm for the organization and is beloved by all FFA members across the country. Every year, our own Trumbull Regional FFA Chapter joins in on the fun.

This year, FFA Week ran from February 22nd to the 29th. Trumbull’s own student led officer team began devising fun student activities early on in January to ensure that all chapter members had a memorable week. Agriscience students have not been let down! In addition to in-school dress up themes, there was an after school activity every day.

Freshman Julia Wilkinson said, “I am so excited for my very first FFA Week. The activities planned seem so fun, and I can’t wait to see what the officers have planned.”

The weeks kicked off on Monday with Country vs. Country Club dress day, encouraging students to sport their best cowboy boots or penny loafers. After school on Monday, FFA members were encouraged to attend Game Day, where favorites like Monopoly and Foursquare were played with friends.

The fun continued on Twin Tuesday with an ice cream social after school, giving Agriscience students the opportunity to relax with friends after a long day and enjoy some delicious dessert. On Wednesday, all students sported National Blue and Corn Gold, the official colors of the National FFA Association. As is the tradition every year, the FFA meeting was held after school.

Thursday’s dress up theme was the beloved “Dress Like Your Teacher”. Students can really get into the spirit with this day as they rock Dr. Vrabel’s famous lab coat or Mr. Pie’s checkered shirt. In addition to all of this fun, it has become an annual tradition to host a fundraising night at a local restaurant.

This year, the officer team chose Panera Bread at the Trumbull Mall. Twenty percent of the proceeds came back to Trumbull Agriscience to further fund student events, like FFA Week.

The week winds down with Flannel Friday and a movie night, where the parent organization, the Friends of the Farm (FOF), provided popcorn and other snacks.

The week, like always, was an overwhelming success. To check out some of the awesome FFA Week highlights, be sure to visit #TAGFFAWeek20 on Instagram.
