The Trumbull girls soccer teams are hitting it off with a bang. Every girl on these teams has been preparing throughout the summer for soccer. With long runs, workouts, and cardio, every girl deserves applause. All teams this year have been successful individually, showing that Trumbull soccer girls have been on fire. Although some teams are small, all are mighty.
This year’s Freshman Team consists of seventeen girls. So far, they have won almost every game, with the exception of one loss and one tie. The freshman team has no cuts, making it available for every incoming freshman.
Freshman Ella Grenier recommends this team “because you’re able to develop good teamwork skills, and it allows you to stay healthy throughout the year”. Being a freshman can be challenging, but Grenier “loves(s) being able to do a sport with (her) friends and have fun together as a team.”
The Freshman team is excellent for anyone wanting to make new friends and participate in something successful.
The JV team takes influential players from each grade level and is “made up of a great group of girls who always work hard”, according to sophomore Jane Shannon, a member of the JV team. This team is a smaller one consisting of only fourteen girls. The JV team is working to improve their record of six wins and one loss.
For Shannon, communication is essential for their team on the field. “The connection between the players and our coach is unique, which helps”, she said.
What also helps the JV team is focusing during practices on “possession and quick passes through the middle”. They also have “been working to improve on our finishing into the corners of the goal and off of set pieces,” says Shannon.
The JV is full of many talented girls this year. The center midfielders “have worked hard to switch the field and cover the sides and the defensive line has been very strong,” according to Shannon. “(Forwards) have worked so hard to score goals and (goalie Ellie Lehman) “has done a great job to protect the goal and improve our record.”
This team is very strong, and Shannon is passionate about their team and “hope(s) (they) continue to get better as a team throughout the season.”
Last but not least, this year’s varsity team has been doing a great job with twenty-six girls and a standing of five wins, one loss, and three ties.
What makes this team so good is the drills they do during practice. “Whether it is passing drills, running, working on set pieces, or possession all girls try their best”, says junior Lyla Petitti of the varsity team. “These girls stay extremely fit for the games and overall drills that have benefitted everyone’s play this season.”
“(They have) such a close bond helping to our success this season and create such an amazing environment”, Petitti said. “The talent everyone has is insane, and it’s so exciting to see how much we improve each day.”
(This is) “truly such an amazing team to be a part of”, says Petitti. “Each touch on the ball we take is just more practice to help us grow as a team!”
The talent this year on every team is shown, and as a school, we wish each team luck to improve throughout the year. Great job girls!
