On the first of May, school principals are annually recognized for their importance within the school community. National Principals’ Day, founded by Janet Dellaria, recognizes principals from elementary to high school and allows for extra appreciation for their achievements and all the work they do for the betterment of their schools.
To celebrate National Principals’ Day, THS Eagles Eye sat down with Trumbull High Principal, Mr. Manuel, to ask him a few questions about his recent and successful time as principal.
EE: During your first year as Trumbull High School Principal, what is something new that you have enjoyed doing?
Mr. Manuel explained that one of his favorite parts about his experience has been adjusting to his new position within the school, after previously working as a classroom teacher and C House Principal. He recognized how coming into his new position has taken time to adapt to; however, he has been immensely positive throughout his adjustment this year and will continue to spread his positivity throughout the entire school community.
EE: What made you want to become the principal of a high school?

He first answered by expressing his joy from working with young adults throughout his career. “THS has great people who come to school or work here each day,” he said.
He initially found connections with students while working as a classroom teacher, but wanted to expand those connections with the entire school community, which led him to his roles as an administrator.
As new principal during the 2023-2024 school year, the Eagles Eye asked Mr. Manuel what his favorite event and or achievement of the current school has been, and he acknowledged many.
Specifically, he expressed excitement for the first Eagle Games at THS for seniors, as well as the success of academic and athletic teams. Some examples are: DECA, We the People, The Coding Challenge, our gymnastics team earning the FCIAC and State titles, and the boys basketball victory in the FCIAC championship after forty-one years.
Mr. Manuel also explained that during the year he has worked to recognize many students who have been valuable members of the school community through the Office of the Dean’s List, honoring over 200 students so far this year. Mr. Manuel wants to continue to recognize students and faculty for their great efforts and hard work, and encourage them to continue to find success.
The THS Principal is also looking forward to more upcoming events at the end of this year, such as Awards Night, Scholarship Night, and the graduation ceremony amongst many others. Additionally, he is looking forward to another year as principal, continuing to build upon what was started this year and find more ways to better the school community.
Finally, Eagles Eye asked Mr. Manuel: What is the most rewarding part about being principal at Trumbull High School?
Mr. Manuel responded by sharing that his ability to work with great people, whether it’s the students or faculty, is a rewarding experience he enjoys everyday.
For National Principals’ Day, all students and faculty would like to thank Mr. Manuel for all his dedication to the school and his efforts to make Trumbull High School the best it can be.
