Organized on Tuesday, September 10th was the presidential debate between former President, Donald Trump, and current Vice President, Kamala Harris. Harris and Trump met in person for the first time ever at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During this debate, both candidates discussed topics that incorporated immigration, abortion, and economic policies such as taxes and foreign policy. This intense night allowed the viewers to have their own perspective on the debate and to further their conclusion on who they are going to vote for in the 2024 election this November.
The beginning of the debate started off smoothly, considering the mics were muted when the other person was sharing their thoughts on the following topics. Although this prevented both candidates from not speaking when the other was, it was not fully effective, and they eventually ended up speaking over each other. September 10th will forever be known as a tense, suspenseful, and eventful night filled with disdain and controversy between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
Although both candidates are qualified and competent to be elected as president, they both had their weaknesses during this debate. Although Harris was shown suppressing her laughter when Trump would be speaking, Trump would change the subject so that he could speak about immigration rather than the topic being discussed. Although they both had their weaknesses, they also had their strengths!
Trump stated that, if he gets elected president, then the economy will be in a better state, and that he also wants to reduce inflation. He also explained that he will reduce the number of violent attacks and poverty by setting a border for America and enforcing stricter immigration rules. Harris states that if she gets elected, she will put her focus toward general and affordable housing. Furthermore, she discussed how she will provide comfortable living for families so that they do not have to pay so much money for basic necessities.
It is known that, in a debate, there will definitely be disagreements. Of course, it is important to do your own research and figure out which candidate best fits what you want to see in the next four years. The debate was not the best example of what each candidate wants for the future, but it gave a simple answer as to what they each want for the United States. It’s important to keep an open mind about this because both Trump and Harris are great candidates who have considerable plans to bring to America and, – of course – us!
