I don’t think that I am alone in saying that an AV Club is one of the most quintessential parts of any school’s community. A place where students have the opportunity to not only experience what it is like to work on a real news program, but a place for their creativity and individual ideas to blossom. Afterall, what could be better than getting up on the news in front of your entire school every morning? Or starting an entertainment podcast with your best friends? Or even getting to have a one on one interview with a local celebrity?
Nevertheless, for years on end now, the presence of an AV club at Trumbull High School has been noticeably absent. After having a respected audio/visual production for years, the club was cut almost completely. All the equipment that had once opened up endless possibilities for students was now only in use by Trumbull Television. However, for all students fortunate enough to reside in the special community that is Trumbull, those days are over. Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present to you the newest and most exciting club at Trumbull High School: Soaring Eagle Studios. What exactly are we about? Well let me tell you!
What Is Soaring Eagle Studios?
Soaring Eagle Studios (or SES for short) is a fresh, vibrant, and completely student run audio/visual club at Trumbull High School. Our mission? To allow kids creativity to take flight while providing them with incredible opportunities they never would have received before. The club itself consists of three main branches (with even more expansion on the horizon).
1-Eagle News Network:
“Get ready for the scoop! (ENN) is our news broadcasting stream where we cover everything; from school events to important announcements to showing clips from our latest sports games”(Naomi Mickens)
This branch of SES consists of Trumbull High’s newest daily announcements system airing on Fridays (and hopefully even more days in the future!). At ENN, students will be involved and participating in acting as anchors for the morning announcements, learning the in’s and out’s of how a news show is managed, and going out and finding fresh and interesting news all around Trumbull. EEN is the most structured part of the club requiring certain people at certain positions to keep broadcasts running smoothly and on time. In our first meeting on October 10th, the higher ups and club advisor will conduct non-formal interviews to try and sort out who is best suited for each position. Even if you are placed in a position that you feel does not necessarily suit you, that does not mean that you will not have the chance to conduct different activities in the future. EEN is highly flexible and willing to adapt to students’ specific needs and skill sets to create the best team possible. Positions that are in need and will be up for grabs at the first meeting include: News Anchors, Cameraman, Directors, producers, Lighting Crew, Set Design Crew, Tech Crew, Reporters, and so much more. Needless to say, the Trumbull nest has new eyes in the sky.
2-Trumbull Talks: Beyond The Nest.
“Dive into the world of podcasts! With this exciting stream, you can sit down with a diverse range of voices—friends, family, anyone you would like! Talk about whatever you’d like and life beyond the school walls. From unique hobbies to worldwide trending hot topics, to sports and everything in between, we’re here to foster authentic conversations that resonate with everyone.”(Naomi Mickens) This branch of SES is arguably the most flexible and free out of all the departments. With access to podcast equipment both in school and for anybody at home, Podcasting has now become a readily available option for all Trumbull High students. These podcasts can range anywhere from discussions about Trumbull sports, to a 3 hour recorded conversation with your friends. As long as podcasts pass approval from higher ups, any student (or group of students) is permitted the freedom to record and talk about whatever they want. These episodes are normally recorded at home or in the studio, then edited and uploaded to the Soaring Eagle Studios Websites. The more students recording podcasts, the more that the creativity of the students in the club will prosper and grow. This division also serves as a gateway to those who want to start podcasts of their own as a hobby or even a career. Either way, Trumbull Talks is going to ensure that all the voices of Trumbull High are heard and represented!
3-Aspire To Inspire Interviews
“ The interview series, where we shine a spotlight on incredible individuals from both our school and the broader community.” (Naomi Mickens). The “Aspire To Inspire” Interview portion of the club is dedicated to interviewing the people behind the incredible stories we report at Eagles Eye. These people do not necessarily have to be related to Trumbull, but rather they can be part of the broader community that relates to the ideals and values that are provoked at Trumbull High. In this division, we will be interviewing all manner of different and unique individuals who have something to say or a story to be told. These characters can range all the way from teachers, to students, to figures in the community, to even local celebrities! When it comes to this business (and life in general), connections are key and these interviews will give students the much needed experience of establishing connections and relationships in the real world.
Aside from these 3 main divisions, countless other opportunities will be presented and developed over time as the club progresses. Remember, these opportunities will only prove fruitful if students decide to TAKE THEM. So, bring yourself, bring a friend, bring as many people as you possibly can! Join us for our first meeting on October 10th in room M16 at 2:30. Any further questions about the club or its activities will be answered and thoroughly explained in detail at the event. Additionally, if you wish to get started in learning more information right away, the google classroom code is “oihckwh”. From the hallways to the headlines, Soaring Eagles Studios will be taking the creativity of students beyond new heights! The only question is…are you in or not?
