With Halloween here, the excitement for sweet treats is palpable throughout the THS community. To capture this festive spirit, the Eagle’s Eye conducted a survey to uncover students’ favorite candies and chocolates. We posed four questions: What is your favorite Halloween candy? What is your favorite Halloween chocolate? Do you prefer chocolate or candy on Halloween? And what grade are you in?
We received 105 responses, with 43.8% from freshmen, 25.7% from sophomores, 21% from juniors, and 9.5% from seniors. Here is a closer look at the results and what they reveal about our students’ Halloween preferences.
When asked about their favorite Halloween candy, respondents could choose from nine options: Sour Patch Kids, Skittles, Starbursts, candy corn, Twizzlers, Nerds, lollipops, Life Savers, and Airheads. Sour Patch Kids emerged as the clear favorite, garnering 35.2% of the votes. Skittles followed with 10.5%, while Starbursts and Airheads tied for third place, each receiving 9.5%. Candy corn took fourth, and Twizzlers and lollipops rounded out the top five. Nerds finished second-to-last with 5.7%, and Life Savers came in last at 3.8%.
The question about favorite Halloween chocolate produced a more balanced distribution of responses. Participants could choose from ten options: M&M’s, Reese’s Cups, Butterfingers, Snickers, Hershey Bars, Milky Way, Twix, Kit Kat, Heath, and Almond Joy. Kit Kat was the top choice, securing 22.9% of the votes.
Sophomore Jenny Hua shared her thoughts: “I like Kit Kats because the chocolate tastes pretty good, and I like the wafer too. They always remind me of trick-or-treating with my friends!”
Twix followed closely at 19%, while Hershey Bars took third with 14.3%. Reese’s Cups garnered 13.3%, M&M’s placed fifth with 8.6%, and Milky Way was sixth with 5.7%. Butterfingers and Almond Joy tied for second-to-last with 1.9% each, while Heath received only one vote, placing it at the bottom.
When summarizing the overall preferences, it is interesting to note that students lean slightly towards chocolate, with 35.2% expressing a preference for it compared to 29.5% for candy. However, a significant 35.2% are open to enjoying either option, highlighting a balanced appreciation for both chocolatey and fruity treats. This shows that, while there are clear favorites, the THS community has a diverse range of tastes when it comes to Halloween sweets.
With Halloween upon us, these preferences offer an insightful look into the sweet tooth of our THS student body. Whether you lean toward classic chocolate or enjoy fruity candies, it is clear that students have strong connections to their favorite sweets. So, as you celebrate this Halloween, take a moment to enjoy your favorites and share them with friends. Happy Halloween, THS!
