EE Co-Managing Editor
Normally, here at Eagles Eye, we prefer to focus on topics outside the narrow caverns of our humble paper. However, with the end of the year coming to a close, we are taking this time to celebrate the tremendous accomplishments of Trumbull High School’s very own newspaper across the 2024-2025 school year.
In just this year alone, writers here at Eagles Eye have written over 123 articles across these past 10 months (give or take). In just this year alone, our club membership more than TRIPLED as we introduced an incredibly talented set of new writers each with their own unique ideas and style.
Each of our editors, along with Mr. Pelligra, could not be more proud of the progress and improvement we have seen in your pieces across the year. Hearing and seeing your unique voice develop through writing is truly an incredible experience, and we are even more excited to observe how it will further improve across the next year.
We don’t write articles because it looks good on a resume, or because we get our name on a byline, or because our parents can read them. We write articles because we are members of the human race and we are all filled with passion and creativity that can only be expressed in ways we can’t even describe through just words.
The comfort reading each of your articles has brought to me throughout the year (as well as the ones I have written myself) is indescribable and somehow, it gives me a sense of hope. A sense of hope that despite the decline of literacy and enthusiasm in writing across recent years, we still have a whole group of talented teenagers excited to work, write, and bring their voice to the masses.
In addition to the cultivation of voice and artistic persona that only writing can bring, the most overlooked aspect of writing is that we are making our voices HEARD. Through writing, we express opinions and views that otherwise most likely would not have seen the light of day outside of our website.
Despite what you may assume, writing and agreeing to have that work put up on a public website for all to see is a nerve-racking experience. For many people, it is the first time that their writing is displayed to anyone but themselves and their teachers. Doing this takes courage, and having the will to actually put your work out there is yet another credit you can give to yourself as a person.
Some people have stuck with this, others have left, but either way, the fact that we here at Eagles Eye can even give you the OPPORTUNITY to put content out there is extraordinary and we would hope a critical pillar to your development as a writer and individual. Thank you all for everything you have done this year. Even if you’re not in the club but are reading this, thank you for supporting us and making our dreams of self-expression come true. It has been quite a year Eagles Eye. Congratulations to the graduating seniors, and I look forward to seeing you all back next year!
P.S.
You CAN always write over the summer if you wish…
We do not expect nor require you to but it is a great way to get some practice in before next year.
