Spices around the globe come together in a time of forgiveness and togetherness. Love, hope and family are all things that bring us together on the special day: Thanksgiving. Not only does family bring us together but so does food!
Of course the world renowned baker Martha Stewart’s cook book guides chefs/adults through the chaos in the kitchen. With only 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, pie dough, 12 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced, ¾ cup sugar, plus additional for pie top, the zest and juice of 1 lemon, 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon, ½ teaspoon nutmeg, a pinch ground cloves, 2 tablespoons unsalted butter and 1 large egg you can have a delicious apple pie inches from the rest of the fine dining on your thanksgiving table.
As for places in Connecticut to purchase a prepared pie, there are many! Trumbull’s Plasko’s Farm for one and even Granny’s Pie Factory located in East Hartford. Although we might be biased, Plasko’s is the place to go! With their famous ice-cream you must also try their warm pie on your kitchen counter this year. Even with their high ratings, what’s stopping you? For those who love to bake, please go to www.marthastewart.com for more thanksgiving dishes!
Thanksgiving isn’t just about the food, though it’s also about the memories created around the table. Whether it’s laughing over old family stories, watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade, or gathering around the TV for football, these traditions tie millions together. The warmth of a crowded living room, the smell of spices drifting through the house, and the excitement of seeing loved ones you haven’t visited in months all help make Thanksgiving a cherished holiday. No matter where you are or how you celebrate, the heart of the holiday remains the same, coming together and appreciating the people who make life meaningful.
