As the holiday season continues, many people enjoy certain seasonal activities that are fun to do with friends and family. One of these activities in particular consists of looking at holiday lights. Driving around to see holiday lights with Christmas music and a cup of hot chocolate is the perfect way to distract people from a busy reality, and it is free! This activity also allows people to focus on what truly matters around the holiday season: spending time with friends and family.
There is something so nostalgic and comforting about looking at the beautiful creations of holiday lights that people put together for display in their yards. Viewing different holiday lights not only brings joy, but a sense of warmth that reflects the holiday season and what it really means. Many people take time out of their day to set up holiday lights, and yes, many do it out of personal desire, but more importantly, they do it so that others can see the lights and smile.
Although many people know that holiday lights are a very traditional part of the holiday season, many still wonder where the best locations are to see holiday lights, specifically in our region of Fairfield County. The first location that is very popular is Wonderland at Roseville, which is located in Fairfield, Connecticut. It displays a light show with various features such as dogs, trains, reindeer, snowmen, and nativity scenes. Roseville Terrace is open to the public every day from 5pm to 10pm.
Another popular holiday lights location is known as Christmas in Milford. There is a Facebook page that showcases the different houses, and there is even a yearly contest that claims one house as having the best lights. One special feature about this location is that some of the houses collect unwrapped toys in ‘Santa’s Mailbox’. Going out to look at holiday lights is not only a wholesome activity, but it allows people to give back if they choose to donate, especially during a time of year where some people are less fortunate.
If you do not plan on traveling far to see holiday lights, there is a perfect local option right in Trumbull! Sterling Road is located in Trumbull, and this street is commonly called “Santa’s Runway” during the holidays. 12,000 lights are displayed on the entirety of Sterling Road as well as two cross streets nearby. There is also a Facebook page for Sterling Road that showcases various dates when Santa and the Grinch will be visiting.
Additionally, around the holiday season, individuals can sign up for their light display to become a part of a list of houses to visit to see holiday lights. These lists are commonly found on Facebook pages, and are shared by different neighbors of Trumbull. It can be very fun to drive around Trumbull to the different addresses on the list to view various holiday light displays. Sometimes, houses have fun features such as syncing their holiday lights to a radio station. If you visit a house such as this, you can adjust your radio station to match the beat and pattern of the holiday lights, which can be a very fun experience.
Overall, there are lots of opportunities to see holiday lights in Fairfield County, as well as here in Trumbull specifically. All of these options showcase beautiful holiday light displays that make for the best activity with family and friends around this time of year. The different intricate displays of holiday lights set up around Fairfield County are meant to be seen and admired by the public!
