With summer having ended and the leaves starting to darken and fall, Halloween is quickly approaching. With Halloween being less than a month away, many stores and homes are starting to get prepared for the season and displaying their ghostly decorations. Students and staff of Trumbull Public Schools have Halloween this year off, as it lands on Diwali – the Hindu festival of lights. With the day off, students are able to spend the day with their friends and do other spooky activities!
Many haunted attractions for Halloween in CT have started to begin – including the popular Legends of Fear in Shelton. Legends of Fear has two separate, yet equally fun, attractions – their Haunted Hayride which is a thirty-minute experience on a tractor, and their Hollow trail, where you can walk along different areas at your own pace. The opening night was Saturday, September 28th from 7 pm to 9:30 pm, and going forward it will run on most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between October 4th and 27th.
Another fun Halloween activity that you could do to get into the Halloween spirit is to decorate and carve your own pumpkin! There are many creative ways to design pumpkins – from the traditional knife cutting to painting a design on it. You can even host a pumpkin carving competition with friends to compete and see who can make the best or spookiest pumpkin.
One of freshman Gaaya Nalajala’s favorite fall-themed activities is to watch horror movies. “My favorite Halloween movie is Goosebumps 2, and I watch it every Halloween because it reminds me of the terror I felt when I first watched it in 4th grade”, she said.
Halloween movies and TV shows are great opportunities to get your adrenaline pumping and ready for the 31st. There are millions of options of media to choose from, including Marvel’s new Agatha Along, featuring many witches and dark magic.
Halloween wouldn’t be the same without telling scary stories. One of my personal favorite activities is to gather around my fire pit on a cold October night and come up with scary stories to tell my friends and listen to theirs while having smores. This can get really creative as there are so many creepy stories to tell and different elements you can add to try and scare your friends.
This month, many local towns and companies have been offering different fall outdoor activities, to get into the autumn spirit and get fresh air. One way to do this is through pumpkin or apple picking, which Silverman’s Farm in Easton offers. There are also many corn mazes and fall family-friendly hay rides being set up, including a corn maze at Plasko Creamery in Trumbull! This corn maze runs on weekends from 11 am – 6 pm, but there are many other outdoor activities running at all different times near or in Trumbull too.
The most infamous way to celebrate this holiday is to dress up and go trick or treating. There are many ways to get involved in trick or treating, you can dress up and go trick or treating in a neighborhood, or you can help give out candy at your house and spook other people! The Halloween season can be really fun as there are hundreds of ways to celebrate and embrace the spirit!
