What’s that coming out of Trumbull? With its performers? It’s THS Musicals!
That’s right, next weekend, the Trumbull High School Thespians will be putting on their long-awaited production of Something Rotten!
Historically, spring musicals have been one of the crown jewels of Trumbull High. Directed by English and Theater teacher Jessica Spillane, THS has garnered numerous Halo awards and accomplishments for its dedication to the arts over time.
In the past 3 years, Trumbull has lit up the stage with productions such as 42nd Street, Mean Girls, and most recently, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
While Joseph certainly gave us a taste of the obscure last year, Something Rotten will delve even deeper into the well of surprise and absurdity. Written by brother Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick, Something Rotten is an exceptionally well-written yet hysterical contemporary musical that specializes in breaking the fourth wall and leaving you questioning what just happened.
Set in the time of the Renaissance, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom (Ali Hassan and Caden Chaffee) are stuck in the engulfing shadow of the golden age of William Shakespeare (Britt McGrath).
With help from the soothsayer Nostradamus (Mars Czarnecki), not THAT Nostradamus, the brothers go about writing the world’s very first musical!
However, as the pressure closes in further and further on Nick, chaos begins to ensue as their lives and the musical crumbles before their eyes.
Want to know their fate? Come see the show and find out!
Outside of the enthralling plot, the actual production and presentation of the musical by THS students is a sight to behold. Tailored with modern-day references and the fantastical parading of Eggs, most of Something Rotten’s musical numbers are based around spectacular showings and clever innuendos.
This leaves room not only for drawn-out dance breaks but also opportunities for performers to improvise and bring their characters to life. Some of the most impressive numbers in the show include A Musical, Will Power, and We See The Light.
Expect plenty of flash, style, and dramatic action as our performers lift you out of your seats! The shows themselves run March 20, 21st, 27th, and 28th at 7pm, with one matinee at 2pm on March 22nd.
Tickets have been on sale for a while now. Make sure to get them at thsmusicals.com. Support your friends, witness the glory of Shakespeare, and experience the magic of a fantastical experience as THS welcomes you to the artistic world of the Renaissance! See you all there…
